Vermont media firm buys Sussex Printing

Vermont-based O’Rourke Media Group has acquired Sussex Printing Corporation in Seaford. The transaction includes The Guide, and commercial real estate.

Sussex Printing was for sale and listed on a media brokerage site for some time.

“I am delighted to welcome The Guide and all of its employees to our company,” said Jim O’Rourke, CEO of O’Rourke Media Group. “As I researched this Delmarva market and got to know Amy and Tim, the current owners, I became more and more excited about this business. The Guide has a strong brand and aligns perfectly on our growth strategy as it relates to print advertising, print and design, and digital. We are tasked to work with the team on expanding our digital business and agency in the state of Delaware, and we appreciate the market’s proximity to Philadelphia, southern New Jersey and Maryland.

Sussex Printing was established over 60 years ago. Guide maintains a print footprint on the Delmarva Peninsula and has a client advertising base, including classifieds. The Guide, an advertising shopper, is printed internally and distributed to drivers and company vehicles.

“Our employees are hard-working, dedicated and like family,” said Amy Higgins, third-generation owner and president. “Having said that, I’m confident that I’m leaving my business in good hands with Jim and O’Rourke Media Group.”

O’Rourke Media Group resumed on April 1 and will hire all 50 current employees, according to a statement.

O’Rourke Media Group operates in six states with a full-service digital agency and 23 hyperlocal publications and websites.
