Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Producer Creates Story Kitchen Media Company

Dmitri Johnson, co-producer of the hit Sonic the Hedgehog movie series, has teamed up with John Wick writer Derek Kolstad to launch Story Kitchen, a new media venture.

Johnson is the founder of dj2 Entertainment, which is best known for bringing video game adaptations to the big screen and beyond. The studio’s other upcoming projects include a Tomb Raider TV series and an It Takes Two movie based on the hit Hazelight game.

Kolstad is best known for his work on the John Wick film series, but is also currently working on a Splinter Cell anime with Netflix.

Founding members also include APA talent firm partner Mike Goldberg, who has worked with dj2 Entertainment and its clients.

Story Kitchen hasn’t announced any projects yet, but it’s safe to assume that anything the company releases may be game-related. In an email to VentureBeat, Johnson said the company will “triple adaptations” and had “unannounced adaptations underway”.

Also this week, Nintendo and Illumination released the first trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is slated for release in Spring 2023 after a delay.
