Avicii’s family forms venture with Swedish media company to carry on DJ legacy
Avicii’s family and estate announced that a Swedish entertainment company had acquired the majority of the DJ and producer’s recordings and editing.
The deal will be a joint venture between the family and Avicii’s estate, who will retain 25% ownership while Pophouse Entertainment acquires 75%, to continue his legacy around the world.
They previously collaborated to create an interactive tribute museum in Stockholm, titled Avicii Experience, which opened in February.
The Swedish music star, real name Tim Bergling, committed suicide in April 2018 in Muscat, Oman, at the age of 28.
The agreement will allow the parents of the late DJ, Klas Bergling and Anki Liden, to devote more time to the Tim Bergling Foundation, which they founded to support people and organizations in the field of mental illness and prevention of suicide.
Klas Bergling said: “Pophouse presented a concrete concept and proposal for the long-term care and development of Tim’s musical heritage.
“Through this agreement, we are also securing the long-term finances of the Tim Bergling Foundation, creating the opportunity to act decisively on the Foundation’s commitments to support issues as important as mental health and well-being. – to be young.
“Working with the Tim Bergling Foundation is a full-time commitment for us.
“The foundation has only existed for a few years and there is still a long way to go.”
Pophouse Entertainment is known for developing brand building ventures in music and entertainment, such as the critically acclaimed new show ABBA Voyage to London.
Pophouse chief executive Per Sundin first signed Avicii to Universal Sweden in 2010 when he was the company’s chief executive.
Sundin said: “Tim was not only one of the best DJs in the world, he was an extremely productive genius who always went his own way, mixing genres, challenging convention and creating music history. .
“I have followed his entire journey, and it is with honor and pride that I and the entire Pophouse company, together with the Bergling family, will nurture and present his music to new generations of listeners in all parts of the world. “
Avicii first rose to prominence in 2011 with his Grammy nominated single Levels and he was nominated again in 2012 for his collaboration with David Guetta on their track Sunshine.
He was further rocketed into stardom with the release of his megahit Wake Me Up in 2013 as part of his debut studio album True and he released his second album, Stories, in 2015.
He has collaborated with an array of music stars over the course of his career, including Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Nile Rodgers, Adam Lambert and Rita Ora, as well as producing for Madonna, Coldplay, David Guetta and Tiesto.
The artist’s third and final album, Tim, was released posthumously in 2019, with proceeds going to the Tim Bergling Foundation.
It comes after Pophouse acquired master recordings and back catalog publishing assets from Swedish House Mafia, and formed a joint venture with the trio members to grow and amplify their brand worldwide.
